To me, nothing is quite as awe-inspiring as the ocean. It is so vast, so powerful, and so mysterious. Even though scientists have been studying every aspect of the world’s oceans for so long, we still know relatively little about what happens in deepest, most out of reach depths. This is a big part of the reason I find the water so fascinating. Another reason is that I grew up around boats and have been interested in sailing for as long as I can remember. This love is apparent to all my visitors, since I have nautical home accents in just about every room of my house.
What’s funny to me is that I didn’t even deliberately set out to have one unifying theme. I just kept finding great nautical home accents that I knew would be perfect for the living room or bedroom or study. The more purchases I made, the more dominant the theme became until now I can’t help but shop for nautical home accents whenever I go out. Fortunately, this is a timeless look that will never go out of style, so I don’t have to worry about having to change things up in a few years.
I particularly love the way there’s always a huge selection of nautical home accents to choose from whenever I go to the store or shop online. For example, if I want to buy a clock with a marine theme, I’d likely be able to browse through literally hundreds of different choices, from a polished brass porthole clock to one set in an anchor or ship’s wheel design. This, of course, is a shopper’s dream come true. If I get tired of one particular piece in my collection, I can put it in storage for a while and go buy something else.
Now that I’ve embraced this whole idea of decorating around a specific theme, I want to move beyond nautical home accents and get into larger pieces such as furniture. Last week when I was browsing around some of my favorite Internet stores, I saw an absolutely stunning navigator’s desk that I would love to have in my study. It is made from “distressed” wood, comes with a leather top, and instantly evokes images of old-time seafaring. I’ve got to start saving money so I can buy it! If that means cutting back on the smaller nautical home accents (that nevertheless add up and take a toll on my bank account), then so be it.
If you’re as drawn to the beauty and majesty of the sea as I am, then why not show it by decorating with nautical home accents? There are pieces for every budget and taste, so you’re bound to discover something that perfectly suits your personal style.
