The Greatest American Hero: The Price Is Right from the third season is one that a lot of us can identify with, the high school reunion. For the main character of high school teacher Ralph Hinkley (William Katt), he’s not really thrilled at attending his 10 year reunion. In fact, it’s his superhero buddy, Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp) who is more excited about going.
The reason for that is a hot shot football player that Bill wants to meet. Stephen Shortridge, who achieved some notoriety when he replaced John Travolta in Welcome Back Kotter guest stars as the pro athlete. He does an okay job, but frankly, he tends to be uninspiring as a performing.
I love the arrival at the reunion, not only because Ralph shows up in this crazy pink car, but because he’s immediately engulfed by his high school sweetheart, who is all hands as his girlfriend Pam watches. She’s not thrilled, of course, and it does get a few laughs.
Football great Dick Butkus who has also had a successful acting career appears in the show as Coach Andrews, while Claude Jones is on screen as yet another coach.
Since I’m not a football fan, there is really a little too much football action for my taste. It was part of the drama, though, but that’s why this isn’t one of my favorite episodes.
