What Is Acid Reflux

After eating a delicious meal, and settling in for a good movie afterwards. You may find yourself experiencing a burning sensation in the chest area, sometime it can be a strong burning sensation. Well you think to yourself, oh the heartburn. You quickly run for the tums and take at least two. Well that helped for the moment, but wait it keeps returning, now what are you thinking. Well this is known as Acid Reflux, where the contents in your stomach is backing up into your esophagus.

If left untreated it can damage your esophagus, and create wholes within it. The lining of your stomach protects you from the acid in your stomach. Unlike the esophagus, the lining is much different . When you are experiencing acid reflux, it can extend well into the neck and face as well. Usually it occurs after a meal or while lying down. If you’re experiencing heartburn regurgitating your food content in your mouth, you may also be experiencing, excessive salivation as well.

This is called “water brash”. You may experience complications from acid reflux, such as; inflammation of the esophagus, pain when attempting to swallow. Narrowing of the esophagus, and there may be peptic ulcers in the lining of the esophagus. Treating heartburn (acid reflux) can be as simple as, taking a tums or two tsp. of baking soda, or taking two tsp. of vinegar. Well some people would rather make an appointment and visit their doctor instead, but these are a few solutions that will help until then.

 Acid Reflux can be reduced to a minimum if consuming these were gradually brought to a halt; coffee, tea, fried foods, and alcohol. Just to name a few. In some cases surgery is required if everything else fails. So take care of your body you only have one.
