How to Count The Calories That You Consume in The Day

Everything that you eat or drink has a certain number of calories in it. That is not a bad thing. These are the calories which get converted into the energy that your body needs to function normally.  The trouble arises when you are consuming more calories than what is needed by the body. That’s why people grow fat as they grow older as they continue to eat the same but reduce their physical activities. This is why you need to be aware of to see just how many calories you are consuming in a day.

So how does one know how many calories one needs in a day and more importantly how does one count the calories that one is actually consuming in a day? The number of calories that you need will differ from person to person. For someone who is not involved in heavy physical work and has a very sedentary life even 1200 calories a day may suffice. While a professional wrestler has the luxury of feeding his body almost 5000 calories a day because his profession demands it.

So you will need to consider just how many calories you need to burn to function well in a day and then feed yourself accordingly. On an average 1500 calories for women and 1800 calories for men is ideal if you are trying to lose weight. That way the body needs to dig into the fat reserve it already has and thus burn more calories than it consumes. Naturally over a period of time that fat reserve in the body will melt away and so will the extra weight that you are carrying around.

To count the number of calories you consume each day you will need to record what all you eat and drink all through the day. You can keep a small note pad for the purpose or punch in the details on your mobile phone or even use a voice recording device to keep track of all you eat in the day. At the end of the day you need to compile the whole list and then add the calories per thing you ate..

Now that you have the calorie per item you can add it all up to get your total calorie intake for the day. Now compare the figure to what you should be consuming. If it is the same as required, great! if it is not check if it is more or less. If it is a little bit less no hassle, but if it more then you need to cut down on the calories that you are consuming.
