How to Play Guitar Chords

As a guitar enthusiast you would already know the importance of guitar chords for playing music on guitar. Guitar chords provide the basic platform over which the musical foundation is laid. Guitar players of various styles like rock, metal, blues etc use these chords to improvise and evolve their music. I can’t personally stress more on the fact how important of knowing the chords while playing music with guitar.

A guitar chord is formed when we play two or more notes together on the guitar. The guitar chords can be played all over the fret board and in different variations.

Let’s take a look at the basic

  • Minor Guitar Chords

Major chords are the ones that give a positive, happy or bright sound. I generally incorporate these to play happy and peppy music. Music is all about expressing your emotions and the major chords help me express my cheerful and joyful emotions.

Minor chords are those that produce a sad or melancholy sound. I use the minor guitar chords to express a depressive or sad feeling. I also use a mix of minor chords to create some guitar progressions or to use a mix of both emotions.


Once can use these guitar chords or a blend of them to create music, write songs and express emotions with the six strings. There are tons and thousands of guitar chords in the musical dictionary and it is really not important to learn all of them. After spending a while in the musical trance one learns to how to build the chords on their own but for the beginning phase, learning these guitar chords will set a great foundation.
