Ready to bust some more raw food myths? 🙂
Now without further ado, here’s raw food fallacy number two:
Sugar is Sugar
There is a giant misconception within the raw food movement today that the amount of fruit you consume should be severely limited.
Why? Because fruit is full of sugar and sugar is nothing but energy-zapping, cancer-causing, high-glycemic empty calories.
This nonsense absolutely drives me crazy!!!
Let me be clear. All sugar is most certainly NOT the same. There is a HUGE difference between sugar that you buy in a bag (called sucrose) and sugar that exists in fresh fruit.
The former has had its fiber and nutrients removed and is 100% sugar (50% glucose and 50% fructose to be exact). It’s no different than oil that is 100% fat.
Both are nothing but empty calories!
And I’m not just talking about white table sugar that comes in a bag. So-called healthy raw options like agave nectar and honey are also included. They’re all nothing but refined sugar.
Fruit is Awesome
Fresh fruit is different.
Fruit that is raw and perfectly ripe contains loads of fiber, water, vitamins A, C, E, etc. It’s not just unprocessed sugar, but a whole host of nutrients, vitamins, phytochemicals, and antioxidants that are vital to your body.
Now don’t get me wrong, fruit most certainly IS full of sugar. But this isn’t a bad thing at all. In fact, it’s actually a good GREAT thing!
You see, every single one of your cells needs glucose to survive. Everything that you eat, no matter is it’s a slice of cake or a slice of steak, must be broken down into this simple sugar.
In other words, your body literally runs on sugar.
Hey, whad’ya know? Fruit is FULL of sugar! No wonder it’s so delicious and easy to digest!
So if you’re one of those fruit-fearin’ raw foodists and are finding it next to impossible to stay raw over the long haul, I’ve got some advice for you…
STOP neglecting your sweet tooth and START chowing down on some healthy fresh fruit!
