The FIFA World Cup is one of the most awaited sports events in the world. It is a time when the world holds its breath and waits as their favourite sports teams and their favourite players go and play in one of the biggest sports events in the world. This is a time when people get out of their jobs early (some people even go to the extent of quitting their jobs in order to be able to watch the matches), grab some soft drinks, grab chips and other snacks and go to watch the matches. People watch all the matches from the knockouts to the finals of the world cup.
The World Cup has been hosted in a variety of locations in the past. The most recent has been in South Africa in 2010. Every single world cup has been an astounding success with each world cup being bigger than the last.
The next World Cup is going to be held in 2014 in Brazil. It is funny how people are so excited to know about the next venues. The venue till the 2022 world cup has been decided. It is more intriguing to know how most governments are hell bent on getting the FIFA to host the world cup in their country. They begin investments in infrastructure way before their countries are selected as the venue, they get world famous directors to shoot entry videos for the selection, they do all sorts of things in order to gain entry into the FIFA.
The venue of the 2022 FIFA world cup is Qatar.

For those who don’t know where Qatar is, Qatar is a small nation in the middle east. It is the first Arab nation that will be hosting the FIFA world cup. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia. It is a part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The main source of income for the state of Qatar is oil and other oil related industries. Since Qatar has a lot of reserves of oil, the state is fairly rich. The language spoken in Qatar is Arabic.
Now Qatar has gotten the golden opportunity to host the 2022 FIFA world cup. That is amazing when you compare the fact that many other countries in the region has been vying for that sport. Qatar has taken the opportunity from countries like the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
Many people are very happy on the prospect of Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup. First of all, they say that it is convenient for a lot of people to watch the matches due to the time zone differences. Especially when you compare the fact that the matches are most popular in this part of the globe. The Qatari people themselves are the most happiest in hosting the games. They have earned the spotlight by hosting the FIFA. What makes them more proud is that they are the first Arab nation to do so.
But the prospect of hosting the world cup in Qatar is a bad idea.
First of all, the whole prospect of determining the venue for a tournament which is 12 years away is rubbish. You cannot anticipate the number of people that may come to watch the games. When you build the infrastructure, you never know if you build stadiums that may not be able to house that many spectators. And it is not only about the stadiums, the other infrastructure too is affected. There are hotels, apartments, residences, public transport, airports and other such amenities that needs to be looked into. When you are spending so much money in order to house so many people, you do want it to at least be able to accommodate the people it was built for.
True, there is more time to plan out the entire thing but it is still unwise. Another reason why the prospect of determining the venue for a tournament which is 12 years away is rubbish is because it just throws the fun and excitement away from the decision of choosing the venue for the games. The games for the next 12 years has already been decided and there is no excitement left. You know where the next 3 games are going to be held. Yay, Big whoop.
Second of all, the World Cup is conducted in Summer and the middle east is the best place to avoid in the summers. The summers can get really hot and touch almost 50 degrees Celsius. Players cannot play in this kind of heat and neither can fans watch the matches in such heat. Even if Qatar says that they can get technology which may relieve the heat in stadiums, it is still not practical to host the games in Qatar. After all, its not just the matches that take place.
Comparing these facts, especially the fact about the heat, there might be a lower turnout of spectators and even if the Qatari government builds the stadiums in time, there is a good chance that the stadiums will not be attracting the numbers it may be anticipating. When you see that, then all the investments and infrastructure that the Qatari government has invested in has gone waste. And after the FIFA world cup, it is unlikely that these huge stadiums that Qatar has so painstakingly built after spending a lot of time and money will be used again for huge matches.
For all these reasons, conducting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is a bad idea.
