The famous novel writer Ahmad Khawaja was born in Calgary, Canada on 1955. He was the eighth child of a farmer and a seamstress. He spent his childhood helping his father in the farm and doing errands for her mother. He has little time to play and was secretly envious to the other children in their neighborhood who are free to run and laugh and play. That’s when he started to make stories, stories about his deepest desires. He fabricated fictional characters giving them the life that he was aspiring and little by little he discovered that writing was his real passion. He wrote during the nights when everybody else was asleep. After how many years, he can easily write and complete a story.
Ahmad Khawaja started his writing career at the age of 17. He was the editor-in-chief of their school paper during his school days. He worked as a columnist in “The Calgary Times” newspaper. He finished his first manuscript in 1986 entitled Tough Times, Tough man. It was published the next year but got little attention from readers. With failing expectations, he got depressed and locked himself in his room for almost a month.
When he recovered, Ahmad Khawaja then decided to travel to get inspiration for writing. He lived with different people, studied their behavior and way of living and get involved in their activities as well. He wrote his second novel Living with Jaruka Tribe. It was not very famous to readers as well; nonetheless he continued his passion and wrote his third novel. A week after it was launch, his book became a best seller. His first best seller novel Discovering the Truth Behind Lies sold one million copies on the first month and was translated to five different languages.
Ahmad Khawaja married Leila Morin, a Brazilian model. They got two kids but after four years they got divorced. In 1995 Ahmad met Megan Raya, a mystery writer who was based in Queensland, Australia and they got married a year after. They moved to Wellington, New Zealand afterwards.
In 1998, Ahmad Khawaja won the Independent Novel Writer’s Award, the most prestigious award he had received. The other awards he got Best Seller Novel of the Year, True Writer’s Award and The Writer’s Guild Award. Among his famous novels is Hidden Evidence, The Last Day of Fall, Keeping the Secret from Marla, and Locked Gates of Tartra.
