Many people know that it is good to eat at least three meals and two snacks equally spread over the entire day. Experts in dieting and nutrition usually agree on this as well. However, why should you eat at least 5 times a day? How will such a practice help you?

Overeating

One of the main reasons behind the usefulness of eating at least 5 times a day is to avoid overeating. Healthy people will profit a lot from eating smaller portions more frequently (different health conditions may call for different diets and eating habits). It is fairly easy to get used to this regime as your stomach is almost never empty. That results in fewer occasions when you feel hungry. As the result, your stomach will usually be satisfied with smaller portions as it gets used to the idea of getting the food frequently and in sufficient quantities. Many of you will surely agree that it is easy to emerge on an eating spree after having an empty stomach for several hours. However, urges to overeat are very rare when you eat more often.

Weight loss

Contrary to what many aspiring and unsuccessful dieters think, losing weight is much easier when you eat more frequently. The reason behind this was already mentioned. Of course, you will need to eat meals and snack that are not high in calories. On the other hand, there is no need to live solely on vegetables and miracle pills – these have no effect most of the time anyway. Actually, your body needs nutrients from stuff like milk, fish and meat too.

Confusing dreams

Eating smaller portions at least 5 times a day will also help you avoid many unpleasant and confusing dreams. Though, this is an indirect effect as it is connected to overeating. When you form the right eating habits, you will usually go to sleep with stomach being half-empty. However, you will not be hungry. That is good for quality of your sleep. People usually have bad dreams when they sleep on full stomach. Also, the similarly unpleasant dreams settle in when you are hungry. Many experts agree on this too. Though, there is no need for them to as most people know this from their own experience.

It is healthy for your stomach and intestines

Another important aspect is that eating smaller portions will usually help you avoid stomach pains, excessively frequent visits to the toilet and even constipation. However, constipation is not always caused by irregularities in eating habits. Lack of fluids or some disease is more likely to be the cause of constipation.

On the other hand, stomach pain is usually caused by the stomach being either too full or empty. Of course, this does not mean that you should not alert your doctor in case you have some problems. There are many health conditions that cause stomach pain as well.

Also, people who eat irregularly – and usually much larger portions than they should, often experience sudden and excessive urges to get rid of the waste. This is not good for your intestines and can get you in awkward situations in case there is no time or possibility to dump the extra baggage. On the other hand, people who eat smaller portions equally spread over the day are less likely to experience these problems. Their visits to the toilet are not only less frequent, but easier to predict and come much more regularly.

To conclude, there are several good reasons why you should eat smaller portions at least 5 times a day. The most important reason is that it helps you avoid overeating thus making it easier to prevent bad dreams and even lose some weight. You should also remember that this practice will help you avoid most stomach and intestine problems as well.
