It’s your wedding day and you’re looking for ways to make the day even more memorable and enjoyable for everyone, especially your new spouse, but what can you do to surprise them? Surprising your bride-to-be or your future husband on your wedding day is a great way to show your love for them and let them know that you’ve been thinking about them and how much you want them to enjoy the day.
You can put together any sort of surprise that will have the effect you want just by knowing what things are special to your partner and what would complete their day, but here are a few little ideas, some traditional, some out of the ordinary, that will help you think about what you could do.
Put on a firework display.
Fireworks are great fun at weddings, they have a real ‘wow’ factor for guests and everyone will talk about a good firework show for months and even years to come. Hire a professional fireworks specialist and get them to liaise with your wedding venue to see what’s possible. Firework displays are really effective if they’re done as a complete surprise to everyone at the wedding, so keep your intentions a secret for maximum effect.
Once it gets dark on your wedding day, ask everyone to come outside to a good vantage point and give your signal to the firework specialist when you think everyone is in place. You’ll hear the gasps and your partner will love the surprise.
Champagne and flowers.
There’s nothing wrong with being a bit corny and while champagne and flowers may be a little predictable, the effect never lessens. Have the hotel supply some champagne and flowers, or even chocolates, for you both to enjoy when your big day has ended and you retire to your hotel room for your wedding night. With the hectic preparations for a wedding, it’s easy to forget the little things that just complete your day, so take the opportunity to put a little surprise at the end of the day just for the two of you.
Surprise guest appearances.
Picture the scene. Your partner is as happy as they could ever be but there are some members of their family or close friends who live abroad or don’t keep so well, that your partner thinks won’t be able to make it. That’s where your surprise comes in. If you can get them to the wedding with a little help from other guests, friends or family, why not do it as a surprise. You’ll find that more people than your partner will be glad to see them. You can enlist help from other guests and hotel or venue staff to keep the surprise guests somewhere else until the moment arrives that they can be revealed. There won’t be a dry eye in the house.
Video messages and webcams.
If it’s really not feasible to get someone special to the wedding, then why not see if you can get a video message from them. Most venues that cater for weddings will be able to let you use a large screen television or better still, a projector, to play the video to everyone at the wedding reception. A personal message from someone special who can’t be there for whatever reason is pretty much guaranteed to surprise and delight your new spouse.
Better still, with the ease of using technology today, why not speak to the venue organisers and see if you can use their Wi-Fi connection to set up a live webcam session with whoever you want the surprise from. Again, a projector works well for this to allow all the guests to see what’s going on but the person sending the message gets the added bonus of seeing the wedding party. It’s almost as good as actually being there.
Do something unexpected.
The essence of any surprise is the unexpected event that no one sees coming. There are lots of things you can do that will be something people will remember and talk about for years to come that your new husband or wife will love and will see as the token of love you mean it to be. You could have a request played on a radio station or have a banner put up somewhere near their home that they see on the way to the ceremony.
If you’re normally a quiet or reserved person, why not do something really unexpected like sing a song for your partner or learn a dance routine. You could do these on your own or as part of a group surprise.
Whatever you do, putting a surprise together for your partner on their wedding day is sure to be a hit. It show you thought about what they would like and that you’ve tried to make sure your wedding day is as special and memorable as it can be.
