Second Trimester Pregnancy Pains

For many expecting mothers, the second trimester is by far the easiest to get through. Some women breeze through pregnancy without many complaints, but those women are few and far between. The first trimester is all about being tired and feeling sick to the stomach, and the third is when a woman is very large, and often experiences fatigue and swelling, among other things. The second trimester of pregnancy is usually the most comfortable time of pregnancy, but it does not come without its own unique set of aches and pains.

The second trimester pregnancy pains that many women feel are in the groin area. The body releases a hormone that allows the joints to become more flexible. This makes it easier to give birth. However, it is not targeted at just the joints in the hips. The joints all over the body can give a little, making some women very uncomfortable and unsteady. If the baby grows rapidly, this can cause pain in the pelvis that can be extremely sharp. Women with this problem can alleviate some of the pain by keeping legs together when doing things like getting in and out of cars, and climbing in and out of bed. Otherwise, it is just something that has to be endured.

Anyone with back problems in the past may find that they return as second trimester pregnancy pain. It may not be bad, but the added weight pressing on the spine could cause discomfort that other women may not feel until the last few months of pregnancy. If you feel that your growing baby is pulling on your back, and you have had problems in the past with back pain, you may want to get a pregnancy back brace. These are made just for women with a baby bump and work very well at taking the weight off of your spine.

Women may also start to experience heartburn in second trimester if they did not have it in the first. This second trimester pregnancy pain is because the uterus is stating to push up on the stomach, which backs stomach acid back up the esophagus. Expect at least some mild heartburn at this time, and know that it could get worse. In fact, if you are having trouble with it in the middle of your pregnancy, it is only going to get worse as the baby grows. Look for some antacid relief that is safe to take during pregnancy, and stock up.

Other less problematic pains may include muscle cramps in the lower legs, stretching ligament pain around the uterus, and even sore or red eyes if you wear contacts. Remember that you can not take many types of pain relief for second trimester pregnancy pain, but Tylenol is generally safe. Talk to your doctor about your pains and what you can do. These things are all part of pregnancy for many women and they do make a woman uncomfortable. However, once you lay eyes on your new baby, you will feel that it was all worth it, and then some.
