Heavy metal has many subgenres of heavy metal songs. But nothing like Power Metal. With the quickness of today’s metal and also the traditional way to play heavy metal fits the power metal community. Speed metal was really the start of power metal in America. These metal music bands were on the way to build the latest subgenre of music. Different Factors of Power Metal

The vocals that many bands follow are growling with a little clean. Most of the types growls or screams you will find with this genre often reflect the style you would find in black or death metal. Power metal songs and lyrics are often about mythology and fantasy. But politics and religion often be popular topics for music. Almost always there is a fictional twist to their music whatever they sing about. Bands that followed this trend were Symphony X, Hammer Fall, DragonForce and 3 Inches of Blood. Band such as Gamma Ray, Lost Horizon and Helloween would sing about expectation and desire. Artists like Firewind, Sabaton, Manowar and Iced Earth sang with a dark view on their lyrics.

Type of Instruments for Power Metal

Like most band power metal is no different, they’ll use guitars, bass, drums and keyboards. With slower chord progressions in their music, power metal continues to have high harmonic tempos. Power metal is know for those intense crazy fast guitar solos within the breakdowns of their music. With a bass electric guitar smacking some notes which are usually lost in the electric guitars.

Drummers will use a double bass pedal or dual bass drums on their sets in Power Metal. Most likely all metal bands use a double bass. You may hear the double bass running or quick beats in between other elements. This style is no different than other type of heavy metal.

Keyboards are also incorporated in metal music. One of the better bands to include keyboards within their power metal is Nightwish and Rhapsody . There’s various ways that most power metal bands use a keyboard. One is to have an entire melody and another would be to insert quick accents into their music.

What Else Lines within Power Metal

In the early 90s, American started to experiment with Power Metal. It was something they grew from the branches of speed metal, thrash metal and heavy metal. There isn’t many differences of power metal between American and European metal. The greatest difference is that American features a quicker and faster style of play. European Power Metal has more of a melodic sound. Having a more melodic sound probably originates from the popular genre folk metal. You’ll receive faster palm mutes and less guitar distortion in their power metal. For the metal European community, power metal stands on the top for one of the most popular. Bands like Helloween, Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica are in the top for European power metal.
