You may think there is not much that you can do for your baby when you are but five weeks pregnant, but that is not the case. There are many women who have no idea that they are pregnant at this stage, but if you do, there are some things you can start doing, and then there are the things that you should quit immediately. Your baby, as this stage, is so small it may not be seen on an ultrasound, but it is a very important time in pregnancy development. Take care of yourself and your baby.

When you are five weeks pregnant, your baby has been growing inside of you for three weeks. The two weeks before you got pregnant are counted, so that means you have just gone one week past when you were expecting to get your period. The egg has been fertilized, and has then moved down through your fallopian tubes to implant in the uterus. Once that has happened, the cells start to rapidly multiple and grow. You should get a positive result on a pregnancy test at this point no matter what time of day you take it.

For one thing, if you smoke, drink, or take any type of drug, now is the time to stop. The health of your baby depends on it. These can be hard things to stop, so find someone to help support you through this time. If you are on any type of prescription medication, call your doctor or even your pharmacist and tell them that you are five weeks pregnant and you want to know if your medications are safe to take or not. They can tell you the risks involved with each you take, and offer alternatives if some of them are not safe.

Besides the things you should stop putting into your body when you are five weeks pregnant, there are things you should start putting into it. For one, a good prenatal vitamin is essential. This pill ensures that you get what you need not only for yourself but for your baby as well. These are inexpensive and you can find them everywhere. You should also up your intake of green, leafy vegetables. Work on a healthy diet all the way around, and cut out some foods you know you should not eat so you can help keep weight gain within healthy levels.

Five weeks pregnant is a good time to call and make your first doctor’s appointment. They will not see you right away unless you are at a risk for miscarriage due to past occurrences. Once you get in to see your doctor, they can then tell you more about staying healthy during pregnancy. In the mean time, get out and find some good pregnancy guide books that can show you what to do, what not to do, and all that you have to look forward to before your baby arrives. Don’t start buying baby clothes and worrying about the nursery just yet, but relax and sleep when you need it, as you are going to be very tired very soon, if you are not already.
