Mohammed quli Qutub shah of Qutub shah dynasty founded Hyderabad. He built Chraminar in 1591 A.D. to mark the end of the plague that had spread in Hyderabad.

The name Chraminar means that it is a structure with four minarets. The height of this monument is 58 meters. There are arches on the four sides. In between theses arches there are minarets on the four sides of the monument.

The first three qutb Shahis kings rebuilt Golconda, over a span of 62 years.

The fort is famous for its beauty, palaces, factories and ingenious water supply system. The famous fateh Rahben gun, one of the cannons used in the last siege of Golconda by Aurangzeb’s, is also displayed here.

Salarjung museum houses collections of antiques by Mir Yousuf Ali khan salar Jung III.

These are one of the biggest one-man collections in the world.

Relation with Nizam of Hyderabad

Hyderabad had become independent during the time of Mohammed Shas, the Mughal emperor, and the Asaf Jahi dynasty was found by Nizam –ul- Mulk. After the death of the Nizam, a civil war ensured between his son and grandson. This gave the Europeans an opportunity to interfere in the affairs of Hyderabad as both the contenders sought the help of the French and the British.

Charminar, Mecca mosque, Hussain Sagar Lake, state museum and art gallery, Salarjung museum and Nehru zoological park are the places of tourist interest.

Charminar around which the city was planned is considered as a grand monument.

During the 19th century, the nigam expanded the city across the river musi. British established Secunderabad as a cantonment to the north. Secunderabad is cantonment to Hyderabad by mail-long bund on the Hussein Lake.

Hussein Sagar Lake was excavated in 1562 A.D. by Hussein shah wali during the time of Ibrahim quli qutb shah. There is a walkway by the lake which is now a busy main road.
