Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vs. Manny Pacquiao Will it Ever Happen?

Face it; we all want to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao step into the ring opposite each other. We want this fight bad. Boxing has not been the same for many years. We the fans want a super boxing match that will bring boxing back into the forefront of the sports world again. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao can do this for us. However, there is a problem bringing the two most exciting boxers into the same ring together. That problem may be Floyd Mayweather Jr. himself. As boxing fans, the question we must ask ourselves is Floyd Mayweather Jr. afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao?

Manny Pacquiao has fought the best of the best in the boxing world for the past five years. He has thirteen straight wins and he has completely dominated the competition. Manny Pacquiao has beaten fighters so badly; some of them have retired from boxing altogether. Some of the other fighters should have followed suit, but boxing is their only career. Pacquiao has been too quick and too strong for the boxers who decided to step in the ring against him. These were supposed to be the best fighters in the world, Manny Pacquiao was the underdog in many of those fights, yet still came out victorious.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (on the other hand) retired from boxing for two years as an undefeated fighter. Nobody has ever gotten the best of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring. Mayweather Jr. decided to come back to boxing two years ago and won two more fights against lesser opponents. Floyd Mayweather Jr. has two fights in the same time Pacquiao has fought all the best boxers in the world and pounded on each and every one of them. Floyd Mayweather Jr. has never had to fight a fighter as good as Manny Pacquiao. For the Mayweather Jr. Fans, this goes for Manny Pacquiao. Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be a big step up the ladder for the Pac Man. However, Manny Pacquiao is used to stepping into the ring with the best and stepping out victorious.

Why would Floyd Mayweather Jr. be afraid of fighting Manny Pacquiao? Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a shrewd businessman and a rich boxer. He brings in more money than other fighters do for each of his fights. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is an excellent boxer and puts on a great show inside and outside of the ring. The thing stopping this fight from happening is Mayweather Jr. himself. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a very smart man. He knows that Manny Pacquiao is now considered to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Mayweather Jr. wants Pacquiao to take an Olympic drug test before they fight. He wants Pacquiao to go beyond what all boxers have to do just to fight him. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the bigger fighter and he wants every advantage he can get against Pacquiao when/if he steps into the ring against him. Pacquiao will already be tested and refuses to take this extra test. This is just a stalling ploy by Floyd Mayweather Jr. Is it because he is afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao or is it because he believes sixty million dollars is not enough to put his legacy in jeopardy?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has earned his 41-0 record, he has some of the best skills in the business, some people say of all time. Manny Pacquiao would be the first boxer who could destroy the undefeated record of Floyd Mayweather Jr. This fight is not just about two great fighters stepping into the ring. This fight has Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinking about how much is having a chance to lose his legacy really worth to him. Pacquiao is still in his prime as a boxer, he is a southpaw and he has a powerful straight left hand which could be very effective in the late rounds in a fight against Mayweather Jr.

The other thing Floyd Mayweather Jr. has to fear besides his age and natural slowdown of his skills (all boxers eventually go through) is Freddy Roach. Freddy Roach faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. before when Mayweather Jr. fought Oscar De La Hoya. Remember, Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat De La Hoya with a split decision (most believed it was a one-sided fight) while Manny Pacquiao put De La Hoya into retirement. Freddie Roach is an incredible trainer who can find the weaknesses in every fighter his fighter faces. Manny Pacquiao takes this knowledge into the ring and always uses it to his greatest advantage. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is an intelligent man and he will know when he has met his match. Manny Pacquiao is the first major challenger who could knock King Mayweather off his throne. Manny Pacquiao is the first fighter who could actually hurt Floyd Mayweather Jr., ending his career and legacy for good.

Everybody wants this fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao to happen. Some people have lost hope it will ever happen. Some people believe the fight won’t happen because of money. Bob Arum is Manny Pacquiao’s advisor and manager. Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes Bob Arum takes too big of a cut away from the fighter’s for himself. Arum managed Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the past and Mayweather Jr. accused Arum of underpaying him and under marketing him. Maybe (just maybe) Floyd Mayweather Jr. realizes he found a fighter in Manny Pacquiao who may be able to defeat him inside of the boxing ring. Maybe that one thought is stirring around in Mayweather Jr.’s head and keeping him from stepping into a bad situation. Maybe, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao because Manny Pacquiao may just beat him to a pulp.
