Solomon Burke Died at Schiphol Airport Amsterdam

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – Solomon Burke passed away this morning when his planned arrived in Amsterdam International Airport Schiphol.

Burke deceased in the plane before it landed in Amsterdam while coming from Los Angeles. He was 70 years of age, and lived a flamboyant lifestyle. The soul legend was arriving in the Netherlands to play with the Dutch pop group De Dijk on 12th October 2010 in Paradiso.

De Dijk and Solomon Burke recorded last year a CD with translations of the famous Dutch band, the band De Dijk normally records in the Dutch language and this was the first time they ventured into English. The album “Hold On Tight” was an immediate smash hit even outside the Dutch borders.

Solomon Burke was a soul trapper from the first hour, he was a visionair and a pioneer. Solomon was born in 1940 in Philedelphia USA. Part of his repertoire have become soul classics through the years. One of his most famous songs was “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love”.

Many famous artists covered “Everybody”, The Rolling Stones, Wilson Picket and a favorite by many cover bands around the world. The song got another boost when it appeared in the movie the Blues Brothers. He was added to the Rock & Roll hall of fame in 2001.

Burke made his first recording at age 14 when he recorded the Christmas song “Christmas presents From Heaven”, and he did not stop recording until just before his death. Performing was what he lived for.

Solomon Burke loved the family life, and surrounded himself with a healthy and wealthy family of 21 kids and 90 grand children.
