-Avoiding anti-inflammatory agents and alcohol in the weeks leading up to the surgery

Researchers believe that taking these medications could increase the amount of swelling and perhaps bleeding that can occur during the surgery while prolonging the healing time as well.

-Keep the head raised

Minimizing the necessity to bend and keeping your head elevated even at times of sleeping will allow the swelling to reduce through gravitational means and use of a reclining chair to rest is advisable during the recovery period.

-Mobilize yourself as soon as possible

When the movements such as walking are initiated early, the circulation would improve and will assist the accumulated fluids in the region to be re-absorbed in to the blood vessels.

-Avoid excessive physical activity

Vigorous physical activity may not help the cause of reducing the swelling and may in fact aggravate the healing wounds. Thus, such activities should be undertaken only after being consulted by your doctor and following complete healing of the surgical wounds.

-Use cold compressions around the eyes

Application of cold compressions around the eyes without going on top of the surgical site would be beneficial to reduce the swelling around this area and such application can be done for about 20 minutes each three time a day for it to be more effective.

-Follow medications given by your doctor

These medications would be able to support you in reducing the swelling as well.

By adhering to these measures, it would be possible to minimize the duration and the extent of swelling and improve recovery time in most instances.
