Tips to Save Money on Gas

Gasoline is a necessary evil that can add up to a huge monthly expense for many of us who commute on a regular basis. Depending on the type of vehicle you drive, you may have to budget for gas expenses more than others. There are a few things that you can do to help you stretch your dollar and help you save money on gas.

Watch the way you drive. Driving aggressively can cost you in gas. The same goes true for driving at excessive speesd or stopping quickly; they all use excessive gas. When you drive, accelerate as slowly as possible and when you do decide to stop, come to a stop gradually. Your car will use less gas this way, and as an added bonus, you will have less wear and tear on your vehicle.

Shop around for gas before you fill your tank; the best prices may not necessarily be at your closest gas station. Different gas stations have different gas prices, and depending on the location of the gas station, it may pay to drive further to save money on gas. You may want to consider switching to a lower grade of fuel if you car will allow, or try a different brand of gasoline all together.

Check out grocery stores and wholesale membership clubs. Many of these retail stores have great opportunities to save money on gasoline by use of product purchases or membership cards. For example, one major grocery store chain offers 10 cents off per gallon of gas for every fifty dollars that you spend in their store. Savings like this can add up quickly. If you are proactive and willing to make some changes, saving money on gasoline for your car is a snap.
