Apple first brings the device in September 2006 and began producing and shipping it the following March. It initially shipped with a large 40GB hard disk; a 160GB HDD version was introduced 2 months later and the earlier model was ultimately discontinued.
The Apple TVisn’t much more and have advantages than a Samsung-made A4 processor, a connectivity chip and 8GB of flash memory. iSuppli saysthose components along side with the power supply and casing only costs customers $63.95. Not too bad considering the original price $300 Apple TV contained $237 worth of parts and was now sold at a 20% manufacturing margin. The new one retails for $100, which works out to 35% above the cost of the materials. Of course that’s not pure profit for Apple Company seeing how the price of the device also covers the R&D along with marketing, but at least the materials and parts are cheap and Apple’s margin improved over the previous models.
