Diabetes is a new epidemic of the modern world, a disease with a lot of complications. It is a grave concern of the health care people today. Though it is not contagious it is spreading all over the world especially in India at an alarming speed. Alternative medicines have been treating it successfully for thousands of years.
Here are ten kinds of medicinal systems that treat this dangerous disease.
1) Ayurvedic treatment for diabetes
The best and ideal remedy given for diabetes is the bitter gourd, found every where in South India. I saw it in the southern states of US also. Eating this vegetable as often as possible will help you lot. My father was given 50 ml of bitter gourd juice every morning for his diabetes and had a good result. Another effective medicine given by Ayurveda is a mixture of two teaspoons of powdered fenugreek seeds with milk. Fenugreek seeds can also be chewed and swallowed. Amla (gooseberry), fenugreek seed and neem are some of the herbal ingredients used in Ayurvedic formulas.
2) Siddha system
Siddha is an ancient medical system of South India. It recommends drinking of a mixture prepared by mixing 15 ml of amla juice (gooseberry), 15 ml of honey, and 15 ml of lime juice. This can be taken in the morning in the empty stomach.
3) Unani treatment
This is an Arabic medicinal system followed in India. One of the methods it recommends is a mixture of Bael leaves (aegle marmelos, rutaceae). Prepare this mixture with a poultice of 12 gram leaves in 60 ml water. Filter this and drink in the morning.
4) Homeopathy treatment
Curare (cur) is a homeopathy diabetes remedy. This remedy is believed to be supportive in the treatment of diabetics in its fourth dilution. Insulin (Ins) is also given for diabetes. This is a pancreatic juice on a glycerin basis which administered to diabetic patients in doses of 10 or 20 drops a day in water with good results.
5) Acupuncture treatment
This needs some knowledge of acupuncture points in the body and the application of acupuncture needles. I have seen them used very easily by the trained acupuncture therapists. Generally, mild or moderate diabetes respond to this treatment well along with exercises and diet restrictions. Acupuncture points for pancreas are pressed with needles.
6) Acupressure for diabetes
This method is pressing the acupressure points in the body. The relief point for diabetes lies in two places on either side of spine knob on neck, between second and third thoracic vertebrae. Another point lies 13 acupressure inches below and 1.5 acupressure inch either side of spine knob on neck, between eleventh and twelfth thoracic vertebrae. A study of these acupressure points will give a clear idea about the acupressure points.
7) Herbal remedy
Jamun or jamun fruit (Myrtaceae, botanical name: Syzygium cumini) is very good for diabetes. All the parts of this tree are used in treatments. The root or trunk of the tree is immersed in water on the previous day and the decoction can be drunk on the following day in the morning and in the evening. There are many Ayurvedic formulations composed of natural fruits and spices that control diabetes.
8) Yoga for diabetes
Yoga postures, namely Trikona Asana (triangle pose), Matsya Asana (fish pose) and Salabasana (dragonfly pose), are good for controlling diabetes. They activate kidney functions and metabolism. They rest your inner energies and body rhythm to enhance your performance. They regularize the blood sugar in the optimum level.
9) Nature cure (Naturopathy)
Type-2 diabetes can be cured by following this nature cure method. This method prevents the complications in metabolic and vascular functions. Nature cure method aims at primary prevention of diabetes. This involves lifestyle modifications and intake of controlled diet. This involves regular walking and exercises in the morning.
10) Diet therapy
In this therapy for diabetes, a balanced diet regimen is given. Food intake is less than the energy expenditure. Vegetables, fiber content foods, green leaves and fruits (juice form is not recommended) are to be taken. Fat, carbohydrate contents, fried foods snacks between major meals are to be avoided.
