New Delhi,December, 2010: The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, an enterprise of Bharat Hotels Ltd. is back again with its year-end festivities, in the form of ‘Festival of Canacona’, at– InterContinental The Lalit Goa Resort. In its second year, this annual festival commemorates the end of the year celebration and unique to the area of Canacona. Set to take place from December 29th – January 01st, 2011, the festival energizes the region and is keenly awaited by the local resident’s .With a firm commitment to Developing Destinations; The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group’s vision encompasses a holistic development of tourism and hospitality with a social responsibility for the region it makes a presence in. The Group endeavours to involve the local population ,as it feels that the benefit of the prosperity that comes along with the opening of a luxury hotel can act as an economic multiplier for that region, when the corporate acts with wisdom.
Last year, the festival witnessed participation of locals & guests visiting South Goa & made it a truly memorable experience for the Group. For the 2010-2011 three distinct activities have been mounted:- The Lalit Suri Beach Exhibition Polo on December 31st; The Lalit Suri Foot Ball Cup December 29th & Exhibition Football Match between Churchill Brothers and The Lalit team on December 30th; The Carnival Ano Novo on January 01st.
The Lalit Suri Beach Exhibition Polo on December 31st
After last years astounding success, this one of a kind event – The Second Lalit Suri Beach Exhibition Polo Goa hosted by Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson & Managing Director of The Lalit Suri HospitalityGroup,will see internationally renowned Indian Polo players pit their skills against each other midst the spectacular setting of InterContinental The Lalit Goa Resort’s Raj Baga Beach. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa Mr. Digambar Kamat, has consented to be the Chief Guest for this extremely exciting and unique event – which will be an amazing display of world class horsemanship – an exhibition of the raw power of the horse controlled by the skilled agility of its rider – a blend of machismo and skill.
The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group has not only transported specially trained Polo horses from Delhi – but also ensured the participation of world class Polo players – Jai Shergill; Ransher Singh; Dr Pawandeep S Kohli (Tony Kohli); Navin Khanna; Maj Gen Balbir Singh; Preetinder Singh and also the famous Polo commentator Pradeep (Bogey) Rao.
The Exhibition Match will be played between The Lalit Red Team and The Lalit White Team. Each team will have two players with total 6 chukkas – and fresh horses are mounted for each of the 5 minute ‘chukker’. A game arena and a tiered viewing gallery have been specially created for the event.
Taking forward the Group’s vision, Dr. Jyotsna Suri says “As a part of our commitment to developing destinations, Beach Polo was introduced to re-invent the beach as a “courtyard” which brings people together for Polo as entertainment and a spectacle of a glorious Indian Equestrian Heritage. Our aim was to create an activity, which will encourage local participation and local development will follow. This is the 2nd year of The Lalit’s festival and we have successfully added an economy facet to Goa which is growing rapidl”
The Lalit Suri Foot Ball Cup on December 29th & Exhibition Match between Churchill Brothers and The Lalit Team on December 30th at Devbagh Stadium, Canacona – in association with The Lions Club of Canacona
To stimulate the youth and enhance their game of football – The Group shall organize – The Lalit Suri Football Cup in association with The Lions Club of Canacona. This year the event has become bigger and better with teams from all over Goa having registered themselves for this special tournament. The local teams have been playing amongst each other for past few weeks, & December 29th will see a final match. The winner of the match will then be termed as The Lalit team which will battle for the winners title with Goa’s own Churchill Bros on December 30th. The winner will be presented with specially designed ‘The Lalit Suri Football Cup’, trophy as a support to promote football in the region by the Group.
The Carnival Ano Novo on January 01st
After last years immense success The New Year of 2011 brings to us for the second time the much anticipated – Carnival Ano Novo. Organized, by The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group to excite the residents of the Canacona region in celebrating the arrival of a new beginning – the Carnival will have five colorful floats, over 200 costumed folk dancers of the region, lots of music and a spectacular parade.
Last year the carnival experienced presence of over 1000 people and made it to be a huge success. Carrying it forward, this year the Carnival parade will commence at 3.00pm, from the porch at the InterContinental the Lalit – where a special performance will be presented by all the dancers – the parade will then move to Chauri, onto Chear Rasta and finish with an exhilarating spectacle of dance at the popular Palolem beach around 5.00pm. Colossal participation from the last year has got the local community already generating great anticipation and everyone is expecting this to be a befitting finale to The Festival of Canacona by The Lalit.
