New Year’s Resolutions
Here are my New Year’s Resolutions:….
I do not have any and I will not have any. If you need to change something in your life every day is a good day to start. Waiting until some page is torn off the calendar or you replace the calendar with a new one is just a way to avoid doing what you know you need to do. There is nothing magical about a new year. The sun does not know or care.
One solid reason to avoid New Year’s resolutions is that nobody ever keeps them. If you can dodge it until it is time to replace the calendar you can find another excuse later. People resolve to do all sorts of things when the year changes. They vow to quit smoking or lose weight (those are the two most common) and somehow it does not pan out. The second week of January it is too cold to run like they pledged. Their actual running gradually changes from every day to twice a week to never.
If you need to make a change, go ahead and do it. Do it. Do it right. Do it right now. Do not wait for a new year–or a new month–or a new day. Just do it.
