What you should know is that there are two types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2.
Type 1 diabetes can start at any time during the lifetime and will require a daily injection of insulin, this type of diabetes cannot be prevented but there are at the moment many scientific studies in this area.
Type 2 diabetes can however be prevented, it often comes as a result of improper lifestyle. People who are obese and inactive are in the risk zone to get diabetes type 2.
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, and it doesn’t matter if it is type 1 or 2, then you must have a controlled consumption of sugars and carbohydrates, but only consume what is needed to keep the blood sugar stable. Though if you don’t have diabetes, then a high intake of sugar will not result in diabetes directly, but the risk factors for developing diabetes type 2 is increased when the intake of calories and fat are too high. A too high intake of calories and fat will lead to obesity, but also a lazy lifestyle can bring obesity and through that the increased risk of getting diabetes type 2.
But this doesn’t mean that you can eat all the candy that you want, also even though sugar is not the directly cause to diabetes, but sugar helps increasing the overall caloric intake. As well all know an increased calorie intake over a longer period of time will lead to obesity. So to prevent diabetes, then make sure that both you and your children keep a normal weight, and follow a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a good diet.
