Iloilo City a highly urbanized city, the capital of Iloilo province in the Western Visayas Region of the Philippines and the Center of the Iloilo-Guimaras Metropolitan Area recently sent its delegation along with the mayor in the LIVCOM awards in Chicago.
LivCom is a United Nations Environment Program that focuses on the Best Practice regarding the management of the local environment. Improving the quality of life of citizens through creaton of liveable communities. Iloilo City was included in Categroy E and went against: Curitiba, Brazil, Wuxi, China, Portland Metropolitan Region, USA, Changzhou China, Al Ain, UAE, Changwon City, South Korea, Iloilo City Philippines, Medellin City, Colombia.
Under a different category it was entered in Special Projects and went against, South East County, Gran Canaria for its Strategic Planning of the Municipality of Santia Lucia de Tirajana; Westchester, USA: A vision for Ages, bring people and places together; Curitiba, Brazil: Curitiba Biocity; South East County, Gran Canaria: Arts, Culture and Heritage in Ingenio, South East County, Gran Canaria, Healthy Lifestyles.
Iloilo also had entered in the Bursary Awards for Waste Water Management and Disaster Preparedness among others.
After days of rigorous presentations among the different cities participating Iloilo City emerged with the Gold Award for the Iloilo River Development project for Environmental Best Practices and the Bronze Award for the main Category.
