Everyone seems to have some idea about their ideal job or ideal career. We are often lead to believe that something will be a perfect fit for us because we hear advice from our career couselors, family members, and close friends. Sometimes we end up thinking that something must be a good fit for us when in reality it is not. I guess the ultimate way to tell would be by trial and error. However, trial and error can be a time consuming task. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a faster way to tell? Well, there is.
All the information that we need to know is already within us. No matter what we learn from outside sources, we ultimately must look within ourselves to find out which career path is right for us. The world is not perfect and usually will not accomodate all of our dreams and aspirations. However, we must not let that get in the way from making the best choice possible within our given limitations.
We must first step back and realistically assess our roam of possibility. I know that all the so-called positive thinkers will tell you that anything is possible. While that may be true, practically speaking we need to figure out how we can solve our problems in the fasest way possible. Most of us cannot afford to sit around our whole lives and wait for that perfect opportunity to come along. If we were to do that, most of us would spend our whole life waiting and doing nothing. That sounds like a boring way to live.
The next best thing to do would be to take the path of least resistance. I know that a lot of people are really against this type of thinking. We are taught in school that we are always better off making a new path for ourselves. However, sometimes it may take too much of our time and energy to make that new path. One person cannot do it all. Sometimes we need to consider what that new path might cost us. Sooner or later we may realize that our life will be better and easier if we took the path that has already been created for us. After all, don’t we all just want to be accepted and to feel like we belong? I know I do.
My suggestion is that you figure out a way to work within a company that values you for exactly the wonderful person that you are. I advise you to find a career that values the skills that you already have or at least the skills that you can easily acquire. You will notice that you will have an easier time each day and will be able to focus on other aspects of your life with ease.
The main thing that we need to understand is that we cannot fit in everywhere and we cannot possibly please everybody. There will always be people and jobs that are not a good match for us. There is no reason why we should ulter ourselves to match these occupations. As long as we stay true to ourselves, success is inevitable. It is only a matter of time. We need to find a situation in which we will be honored for who we are, as opposed to a situation where we will be constantly expected to change.
