The Mothers-in-Law: Everybody Wants to Be a Writer follows two basic themes that is very common throughout this series.
The first is that the two mothers-in-law, Eve Hubbard and Kaye Buell (Eve Arden and Kaye Ballard, respectively), are always doing things for the newlyweds, be it buying gifts, cooking for them, or, in the case of this half hour, doing a combination of their laundry and writing their school papers.
The second is that with their children married, the women need something to do, something to occupy themselves, usually some kind of career. We’ve already seen this a couple of times in this first year of the show.
What Eve and Kaye decide to do is to become writers. Soon, they decide to work together and that’s where the fun comes in.
There’s a funny bit when the women watch Roger Buell (Roger C. Carmel) as he works on a script since he’s a professional TV writer. I like that one quite a bit.
The zaniness kicks in when the gals try to get back at Roger for something and it backfires. This forces them to have to correct their error or deal with unpleasant repercussions.
I like this episode; it is full of laughs that make me laugh.
