Being a Certified Nursing Assistant is something that you should be proud of. As one, you will become one of the 2.5 million care givers that are giving personal care to the elderly, the weak and the disabled that are confined in nursing homes and other health care facilities. The number of people who are becoming Certified Nursing Assistants is growing as well. It has been forecasted that there will be 700,000 new CNA positions that will be available in the next quarter of a century.

As a CNA, you will help provide 80 to 90 percent of the direct care given to clients and residents of long- term care institutions.  You will provide care stability and predictability, which will boost the feeling of security of the weak, aging and physically challenged portion of the population.

Of the people who took a job as nursing assistants, 28 percent stayed for five years or more on the job, while 12.6 percent stayed from 10 years to 55 years. Those who continued with the job were able to maintain a positive relationship with residents and give value to peer relationships and job security. Long- term nursing assistants are also considered to be experts on healthcare in their respective families.

If you have been in contact with the elderly during your childhood, you would most probably stay as a CNA for a long time. This is because majority of those who chose to be nursing assistants as a lifetime vocation have positive experiences with elderly people early in their lives.

If you think you are one of the lucky few who have patience, wit, knowledge and have an attitude of caring for others, you may well become successful as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
