My E-Book Publishing Experience

Do you want to become a book author? It’s easier than you think, if you publish an e-book.

Traditional publishing is dying, people say. You read eulogies for it all the time on the Internet. With such new publishing technologies as print-on-demand and e-books, it’s easier than at any time in history for a writer to get his or her work out to potential readers.

I had always wanted to write a book, and not long ago I decided to take the plunge and become an e-book author.

It was surprisingly easy.

I wrote a short novel about a homeless girl in the Great Depression. She steals a beautiful doll that she sees in the home of a rich woman, and she and the doll have many adventures. There’s more to it than that, of course, but I don’t want to give the whole story away. It’s a simple, heartwarming story that is called The Christmas Gift.

After I wrote the book I registered for an account on Smashwords, an e-book publishing site, and then uploaded my book. I had to create a cover for the book, and format the content so that it would look right on a computer screen or an e-book reader, but the whole thing took a lot less time than I thought it would. The formatting instructions are easy to follow, and you can do it in an hour or less.

So far there’s been a lot of interest in my book. Almost 500 copies have been downloaded, and I’ve gotten some very favorable reviews.

I would love if my online friends could give me some feedback on my book. You can download a sample, and if you like it the cost to buy the book is only $2.99. You can find out more details here, at the Smashwords site.

Let me know what you think!

And if you have an idea for a book, I would definitely recommend the e-book route!
