Top Ten Stoner Flicks

1.  Half Baked  (1998) – Thurgood Jenkins (Dave Chappelle)  with stoner friends come up with crazy schemes to bail their friend from jail.  They decide to sell marijuana that they stole from a medical lab where  Thurgood works as a janitor.  

2.  Pineapple Express  (2008) – A Lazy court-process clerk and stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) witnesses a murder by a crooked cop and a dangerous drug lord.  He panics and drops a roach of Pineapple Express at the scene.   Dale tries to find out from his dealer Saul Silver (James Franco) if the rare strain could be traced back to them. Dale and Saul run for their lives all aboard the Pineapple Express.

3.  Friday  (1995) –  Craig Jones (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker)  are two guys in a South Central  Neighbourhood hanging out on a Friday afternoon, smoking and drinking while looking for something to do.  They meet interesting neighbours, friends while dealing with a neighbourhood bully.    This was followed by Next Friday (2000) and Friday after Next (2002).

4.  Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) – An eccentric journalist, Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp)   with his crazy lawyer, Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) travel to Las Vegas.  Based on the book written by Hunter Thompson, in search of the “American Dream” they part take in consuming copious amount of drugs and alcohol which led them to a series of psychedelic escapades. 

5.  Up in Smoke (1978) –  Two stoners, Pedro De Pacas (Cheech Marin) and Anthony ‘Man’ Stoner (Tommy Chong)  smuggle a van filled with marijuana coming from Mexico to L.A. while an incompetent Sgt. Stedenko  is hot on their trail.

 6.  Dazed and Confused (1993) –  An Adventure on their last day of School in May of 1976 incoming high school and junior high students from a small town of Texas.   The story revolves around a massive party on that night while they get drunk, stoned or laid.

7.  Leaves of Grass (2009) – A small time pot grower comes up with a scheme to take down a local drug lord.  He lures his identical twin brother to a small town in Oklahoma to help him.  Both character are played by Edward Norton.

8.  Reefer Madness (1938) – A morality tale intending to show the evils of’ Marihuana’  It is not the best film but its unintentional comedy makes it a hit.  Almost unknown till it’s rediscovery during the 70s.

9.  How High (2001) – 2 Stoners go to Harvard with the help of their ghost stoner friend in pursuit of a ‘Higher’ education.

10. Harold And Kumar Go to White Castle – 2 stoners on the munchies tries to go to White Castle but along the way they find themselves meeting interesting people including an encounter with a big cat chasing after them.
