Let me warn readers that is a review of a sixth season episode of Stargate SG-1, and that means that it isn’t in my list of top ten, top twenty, or even top 100 episodes of this series. The show in question is called The Other Guys. It is what some would consider a comedic undertaking.
The actors often said their show was really a comedy, but that no one knew it. This episode centers around a couple of geek scientists who attempt to rescue SG-1. It is believed that the team have been abducted by the Goa’uld.
Essentially, the geeks try to rescue the team, and it just doesn’t go as they anticipated. The one named Felger ends up with a crush on Sam, which makes me cringe more than anything else. Until Claudia Black joined the show (a disgusting move, but that’s another story), Amanda Tapping and her Sam Carter were the darlings of the producers, directors, and writers. They all had crushes on her. How one woman could be that alluring when dressed in BDUs 90 percent of the time is beyond me.
Patrick McKenna guest starred as Felger, and it’s his imaginary relationship with Sam that is the funniest part of the hour. McKenna plays the part well with a hint of frightened innocence.
Overall, though, the show is lackluster, except maybe for Jack’s responses of frustration from dealing with Felger.
