Boston Red Sox failed to make the playoffs last season and have begun to change that status for the upcoming season. After a season filled with countless injuries to star players, Boston management has started to correct those problems.

The Sox  aquired Adrian Gonzalez from the San Diego Padres for three minor leaguers Saturday, starting pitcher Casey Kelly, first baseman Anthony Rizzo, center fielder Reymond Fuentes and another player to be named. The Red noticed that they had many injuries and still almost made the playoffs, but getting Gonzalez and putting him at first will move Youkilis to third base. This makes the loss of Beltre not hurt at all. They still however, need to address the injuries problems to the outfield. Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron spent pretty much the whole season injured and it seems that Ellsbury is injured every season.

The Red Sox could still make a run at Carl Crawford to give stability to the outfield. Moneywise, Boston shed more than $37 million in salaries this offseason from their payroll of $161 million last season and have plenty of room to chase Crawford. Then they will be able to trade Ellsbury  or Cameron for a prospect or draft pick to save on their payroll. Next year, they’ll be rid of $45 million when the contracts of J.D. Drew, David Ortiz, Jonathan Papelbon and Mike Cameron (If they keep him) expire. Most likely parting ways with Drew and Cameron. If Papelbon shows the form he had 2 seasons ago, they will most likely re-sign him. David Ortiz could go either way unless he has a great year this year, but will be looking for a long contract to retire on.
