Party of Scrooge: Republicans Block Unemployment Extensions For Millions

Mitch McConnell and the Republicans intend to obstruct to the end of the lame duck congress. Not even 24 hours after the meeting with the President where there seemed to be some consensus on compromising to get something’s done for the American people the Party of no, led by Mitch McConnell once again decided that it would be better to put politics over people.

Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell sent a letter to Senate Majority leader Harry Reid signed by all 42 Republican Senators saying that they are not going to vote for cloture on anything until the Bush tax cut issue and government funding is settled. In other words, they planned to continue to obstruct, Americans without a job or money be damned.

Yesterday these same Republicans blocked an attempt by the Democrats to pass a bill that would have extended unemployment benefits for millions of hurting Americans.

Millions of Americans could lose their homes and be without money and food during the Christmas holiday because of this move by the Senate Republicans.

Where is the outrage? After the lame duck session of Congress ends Mitch McConnell and the rest of his Republican buddies, most who by the way are millionaires will go back to their nice comfortable lives while millions of Americans will be losing their homes and unable to put food on the table.

Almost as bad as the Republicans obstructing is the seemingly indifference by the main stream media and the American people. Never in the history of this country when the unemployment number has been this high has this government allowed benefits to be cut off for the needy.

This is a morally reprehensible act by the Republicans. What kind of man is Mitch McConnell that he could knowingly allow people to lose everything while in the same breath asking for more tax cuts for the very rich. I wonder how he sleeps at night. The tax cuts to stimulate the economy is a false argument and Mitch McConnell and the Republicans know it. More tax cuts for the rich will not create more jobs.

And I can tell you why, it’s real simple businesses hire people to sale the product that they are producing everyone knows that,  but here’s the things if people don’t have the money to buy the product why would the business hire more people to sale it, they won‘t.

Even if you gave the very rich most of who own their own businesses more tax cuts they will not hire more people. If people do not have money, they cannot shop and if people cannot buy what a business owner is producing, it does not make sense to hire more people.

Now if you extend unemployment benefits these people are more likely to spend the money, which is better for the economy. Mitch McConnell and the Republicans know it and do not care because to them it is about politics not people.

Fortunately my wife and I are blessed enough to have a couple of pretty good jobs so this is not a issue that effects us personally, but I can’t help but think about the families who are losing their benefits around Christmas.

I hope that a few of the Senate Republicans will grow a heart and do what is right for these hurting Americans.
