A Real Review of Acai Berry

I decided to do this article because after purchasing Acai Berry and a colon cleanse supplement through a free trial offer online, I discovered that a lot of people were scammed out of a lot of money.  So I got worried that the same thing might happen to me, so I started this acai berry review to document my experience.   LAST UPDATE:  3-5-09

How I Discovered Acai Berry

You’ve probably all seen the ads for “how to shrink belly fat” or something like that.  The ads even mention that it was featured on Oprah and Rachel Ray.  So out of curiosity (or desperation?) I clicked on the ad.

The ad took me to NichollesWeightLoss.com. “Nicholle” claims to have lost 35 pounds in 3 months using a combination of an Acai Berry supplement and a colon cleansing supplement. She goes on to discuss how she saw Dr. Oz talking about the new “super food” Acai Berry on the Oprah show and the next day Dr. Oz discussed colon cleansing as a way to lose weight. Nicholle then states that this is how she came up with the idea to combine Acai Berry with colon cleansing for rapid weight loss.

She said she takes the colon cleanse supplement twice a day, and the Acai Berry once a day. There was a link for a free trial of Acai Berry and a free trial for a colon cleansing product, so I clicked on them to check them out.

Ordered Risk-Free Trial of Acai Berry

I clicked on the link for a risk-free trial of Acai Berry supplement on 2/24/09. It took me to a web page where I could place my order for a risk-free trial of Nature’s Acai Berry. For $1.99 I would receive a 14-day risk-free trial of Nature’s Acai Berry. So I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I mean, we’re only talking about $1.99 here, right?

I also made sure to read the fine print which stated:

“You are ordering a 14-day risk-free trial for the shipping and handling of Nature’s Acai Berry listed above, which will be charged to the credit card on file when we ship your risk free trial supply.  Your 14 day trial begins when you order Nature’s Acai Berry.  If you are not satisfied with Nature’s Acai Berry, you can call 1-800-983-7968 to cancel M-F, 9am-9pm, EST.  If you are happy with Nature’s Acai Berry, do nothing and your credit card will be charged an additional $79.96 approximately 15 days after your risk free trial is ordered.  Then, approximately 30 days after your trial order was placed for Nature’s Acai Berry and about every 30 days thereafter, Nature’s Acai Berry will automatically send you a fresh 1-month supply.  The credit card you provide today will be billed the Member’s Only price of $79.96 plus $5.95 for a total of $85.91 when each order of Nature’s Acai Berry ships.  I also agree to the 21 day bonus trial Fit Factory for $29.95 and Cost Smashers for $2.95 each month thereafter should I choose not to cancel.  For questions or to cancel Fit Factory or Cost Smashers, please call our Customer Support team at 1-877-495-1182 M-F, 9am-9pm, EST.”

But I thought, okay, that’s fine. I’ll just cancel after it arrives. No big deal.

Ordered Risk-Free Trial of Colon Cleansing Supplement

After ordering the acai berry supplement, I clicked on the free trial offer for the colon cleansing supplement. I was taken to a web site where I could place my order for a risk-free trial of a colon cleansing product by Colon xR and the cost was only $5.95.  So I went ahead and placed my order.

Again, I read the fine print which stated:

“15 DAY RISK-FREE TRIAL includes 1-Month supply and enrollment in auto delivery program. Trial period begins on date of shipment. To cancel and avoid further charges, contact customer service before end of trial period. Unless you cancel, your card will be charged the discount club price of $78.84. Beginning about 30 days after you place your order, our auto delivery program will ship you a fresh supply each month for just $78.84 plus $5.95 s/h, charged to card provided. Cancel anytime.  If you have any questions please contact us. Customer service representatives are also available by phone at 1-888-820-COLON.  Monday thru Friday 9AM-6PM Eastern Standard Time within the 15 day cancellation period.”

But, again, I thought, that’s fine, I’ll just call them as soon as it arrives and cancel.

ACAI BERRY SCAM??

A lot of people felt they were scammed because they were automatically enrolled into auto-delivery services for these products.  But when you purchase the acai berry and colon cleansing, it very clearly states that you will be enrolled unless you call to cancel within your free trial period.  I don’t see the acai berry free trial as being a scam when you are notified of what you’re getting yourself into.  If you fail to read the fine print, then it’s your fault.

Now according to some acai berry reviews, people were scammed out of money even after they cancelled the membership.  And some people even stated that it was impossible to cancel the membership because the customer sevice number provided was always busy.  And if this is the case, then it is definitely a scam.  And there are probably several different companies out there selling acai berry, and a few of them could very well be scams.

Now, back to my review…

After placing my orders for Acai Berry and colon cleanser, I went to check my email for confirmations of my purchase.

I received a confirmation email for my acai berry purchase that stated pretty much the same thing that was stated in the fine print when I purchased the acai berry.  The only difference was that it stated I could contact customer service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  This contradicts the fine print that states to call customer service M-F, 9am-9pm, EST.

I also received a confirmation email thanking me for ordering Fit Factory (which of course I was automatically enrolled in when I purchased the acai berry).  Fit Factory is some kind of diet and fitness site.  The email provided me with a username and password to log into the site.  I never did because I don’t intend to use this service.  Oh, yeah, and I made sure to read the fine print that was in the email which stated:

“Please remember that after the 21-day FREE trial period, should you decide to keep the FitFactory membership, a fee of $29.95 will be billed to you every month. You have also agreed to a 21-day trial of Cost Smasher. Should you decide to keep the Cost Smasher membership, a fee of $2.95 will be billed to you every month. If you do not wish to continue, you may cancel your Fit Factory or Cost Smasher membership anytime during your Free Trial period or thereafter. For any concerns or queries, you may contact our Customer Service number at 1-866-407-1022.”

Now, what I noticed after looking back at the acai berry fine print and comparing it with the Fit Factory fine print is that the phone numbers are different.  The acai berry fine print says to call 1-877-495-1182  to cancel Fit Factory and Cost Smashers.  However, the fine print in the confirmation email for the Fit Factory enrollment stated to call 1-866-407-1022 to cancel Fit Factory and Cost Smasher.  Hmmmm?  Why are there two different numbers?  I don’t know.  But the next morning I went ahead and called the number from the email confirmation to cancel Fit Factory and Cost Smashers.  It only took 5 minutes to get a customer service rep on the phone.  He did try to get me to keep it by reducing the cost, but I told him no thanks.  So he cancelled my membership in both Fit Factory and Cost Smashers and provided me with confirmation numbers for each of them.

I didn’t receive a confirmation email for the colon cleansing supplement until two days later on 2-26-09.  The email thanked me for my purchase of Colon xR and confirmed that my order had been shipped.  There was no fine print in the email at all.

Was It Difficult to Cancel Acai Berry Free Trial?

Though I hadn’t received the acai berry yet, I went ahead and called the customer service number to cancel the auto delivery.  I didn’t want to wait until the last minute to do this because I’m a little freaked out about what I read on some acai berry forums where people got scammed out of a lot of money.  I called Friday morning (2/27/09) at about 7:15 am (PT).  It only took about 5 minutes to get a customer service rep on the line.   She tried to get me to keep it by reducing the price, but I told her no thanks.  So she went ahead and cancelled my acai berry order.  She gave me two confirmation numbers.  She said one was for the acai berry and one was for the shipment.  Weird that there would be two different numbers, but I made sure to write them both down.

So far, so good.  I have been able to very easily cancel Fit Factory, Cost Smashers and the Acai Berry free trial.

Was It Difficult to Cancel Colon Cleanse Free Trial?

I called today (3-5-09) to cancel the colon cleanse free trial.  I was surprised that someone picked up within 1 minute of calling the customer service number (1-888-820-26566).  Unfortunately, this person just got on the phone to ask me what my concern was (sounded foreign – probably from India).  I told her that I just wanted to cancel my trial offer.  She said then told me that the customer service reps who process the cancellations were all on other calls right now, so she would take my phone number and have someone call me back.  That was at 7:35 am (PT) this morning.  So we’ll see if I get a call back.

When I called the number, before the CSR answered, there was a recording that said I could go online to cancel my order at www.mytrialsupport.com.  So, instead of waiting around for a call I may never receive, I went to this site.  It is apparently a live customer service chat support site.  I just clicked on Live Assistant and within seconds received a response.  I told them I wanted to cancel the order, and they went ahead and did that.  I even received a confirmation via e-mail along with a transcript of the call via email.  So my order has now been cancelled.

Did the Acai Berry and Total Cleanse Products Help Me to Lose Weight?

I had no trouble cancelling any of the products that I ordered.  However, I may still cancel my Visa card just to be safe.  I don’t want them to “accidentally” charge my account, if you know what I mean.  But as far as whether or not acai berry and colon cleansing helped me to lose weight….

I started the Acai Berry supplement Monday 3-2-09 (one before breakfast; one before lunch).  It’s making me feel a little bit jittery, so I’m going to have to cut out coffee.  But the acai berry has actually helped as an appetite suppressant.  I’ve noticed that I get fuller much faster.

I’m going to wait until this weekend to start the colon cleansing supplement.  I want to see how my body reacts to it first over the weekend.

CONCLUSION

After taking the Acai Berry and Total Cleanse, I lost only 6 pounds over the two-month period.  So I would say “Don’t Waste Your Money”.
