Biblical literature tells us that the last battle on earth will be called the Battle of Armaggedon. It will be a fight between Muslims and the Jews and the fight will be over a temple, the Temple of Jerusalem. If you go to Jerusalem today, you will find no Jewish temple in the city. What you will find standing on the Temple Mount is a Moslem mosque, called the Al Agsa Mosque.

Bible prophecy assures us that before the end of time, the Jews will rebuild their temple once more of the Temple Mount. This will be the third temple of Jerusalem. This third temple will provoke the Arab muslims. They will attack it. This fighting will be the battle of Armageddon. Armageddon is a tiny valley below Jerusalem. I say because Jerusalem is on a hill.

Mount Moriah: What we now know as Jerusalem was originally Mt. Moriah. This is the mountain where Father Abraham offered his only son, Isaac, as a burnt offering to his God – Yahwee of Jehovah. When Abraham raised the knife to strike the Isaac, he was stopped by an angel. The angel pointed to a goat whose horns were locked on a vine. Abraham took the goat and made it as a burnt offering in lieu of his son.

Jerusalem, literally, means a city of peace. Ironically, it will be the center of the last war on earth. The first temple of Jerusalem was built by King Solomon. Construction started in 966 B.C. It was completed in seven years. This temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 587 B.C. After the temple was destroyed the sacked Ark of the Covenant was lost. It is still missing up to this time.

The Babylonians did not only destroy the temple. They took the Jewish rulers and the elite as captives. This is known as the Babylonian captivity of the Jews. The Jews were able to return to Jerusalem when Cyrus the Great of Persia came to power. He allowed the jews to return to their homeland. This was 539 B.C.

Upon their return from Babylon, the second temple was constructed under the leadership of Ezra. This temple survived for 500, years from 539 B.C. up to 70 A.D. This is the temple where Jesus Christ worshipped. The second temple was destroyed by the Romans when they invaded Jerusalem in 70 A.D. The Romans sacked Jerusalem. The Jews fled the city. They were scattered all over Europe. This is what is known as the Jewish diaspora. The Jewish homeland was erased from the map.

By action of the United Nations, the modern state of Israel was created on May 14, 1948. The next day, May 15, the Arab states surrounding the new nation declared war upon it. The combined Arab land constituted, 5, 414,000 square miles with a combined populated of 250 millions. Israel, on the other hand, had a land area of 10,000 square miles and a population of five millions.

This battle was known as the Six Day Yum Kippur war. The Arabs wanted to wipe Israel out of the map. But Israel prevailed. Israel wants to build a third temple on Jerusalem. It probably will be able to do so. his third temple, a sacred sanctuary for the worship of Yahwee, may spark the last war on earth, the Battle of Armageddon.
