Street fights caught on tape are available all over the internet, but are they ethical? It seems that so often, we make the misfortune and troubles of others into something for our own entertainment and pleasure. I understand that some get a thrill or a laugh out of seeing street fights caught on tape, but why is that?

There are a couple of underlying reasons behind why people like watching street fights caught on tape. One reason people enjoy watching quarrels caught on video is because they think it is funny to watch others acting stupid. They watch the street fights caught on tape, pointing at the offenders, laughing at their seeming inability to control their behaviors, and talk about “what an idiot” someone is. It’s enjoyable to laugh at other people because it makes them feel superior. It comes down to a lack of self-esteem. If the person felt good enough about themselves, they would not need to laugh at the stupidity of others in the street fights caught on tape in order to have fun.

The other main reason people like watching street fights caught on tape is because it gives them a thrill or a rush. Perhaps they wish that they were the ones participating in the street fight, in the middle of the action. They study what people in street fights caught on tape do, and how they act. This comes down to a lack of fulfillment in one’s own life. There are some lost dreams or ambitions in there somewhere that cause the person to find entertainment value in watching others in the middle of the action, even if that action is destructive towards self and others.

It seems that if the main entertainment value of watching street fights caught on tape stems from people’s own unhealthy attitudes about life and self, that it’s perhaps not the most ethical form of entertainment. How much better would it be to lift each other up, to strive towards one’s dreams, to feel good about one’s self, and to try to help others who are in trouble rather than laugh at them? It’s easy to laugh at this notion or brush it off, but before you do, think about it. Are you or others really watching street fights caught on tape because they add positivity to your life? Food for thought…
