Mardi Gras Day will be on Feb. 24, 2009 and it’s a day fill with parades, fun and food as the next day is the start of a fast for Christians. Mardi Gras is also called Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras starts 12 days after Christmas which is on January 6th. New Orleans is famous for holding the annual Mardi Gras parade and you can also see it this year. There will be one tomorrow on Feb. 24 in New Orleans.

The Mardi Gras will also be broadcasted online for you to view. You can show your spirit for the holiday by wearing purple, green and gold. The purple color represents justice, green represents faith and gold represents power. You can wear necklace, hats or shirts in these colors. If you’ll be at the parade you’ll see the parade with the King and Queen leading and then along come float.

The floats will have members of the krewe who will throw trinkets or throws to the crowds. It can be cups, beads, and it’s a tradition that people collect these things. You can dress normally to the Mardi Gras and bring bags to collect your trinkets and throws. The Mardi Gras ball is a ball in which you can only attend by invitation. The legal drinking age is 21 in New Orleans.
