Honey Please Don`t Leave Me

Honey please don`t leave me,
I can hear his young voice say.
As he looked into her sweet brown eyes,
and begged her please to stay.

Then he told her that he loved her,
and I know that it was true.
All the years they`d been together,
they were quite a pair those two.

He`d known her through his childhood,
now he was with her at the end.
Robby was a little boy,
and she was man`s best friend.

She was just a little mixed breed dog,
with shaggy light brown hair.
She didn`t have a pedigree,
but Robby didn`t care.

She`d lay beside his bed at night,
watching while he slept.
And how she`d nuzzle up to him,
each time he cried or wept.

Sometimes he acted like a puppy,
sometimes she thought she was a boy.
And even though she wouldn’t fetch,
she was more fun than any toy.

Now as he held her in his arms,
and begged her not to go.
I could see the pain upon his face,
yet he tried hard not to let it show.

He tried his best to hold his tears,
but down his face they ran,
Because it`s true a dog is man`s best friend,
and he was quite the little man.

He`d faced the harshest of realities,
the best way that he could.
He said he`d always love her,
and I knew he always would.

Later that night at bedtime,
Robby climbed the stairs.
He got on his knees beside his bed,
and quietly said his prayers.

He said God please bless my sisters.
And my Mom and Daddy too.
And if it`s not too much to ask,
please bless Tippy too.

As he drifted off to sleep that night,
I knew he`d dream of her.
In his dreams they`d be the best of friends,
they way they always were.

She was just a little mixed breed dog,
with shaggy light brown hair.
She didn`t have a pedigree,
but Robby didn`t care.
