Weight and health: Women and Anorexia Nervosa

In a culture obsessed with beauty and weight, you can be sure to find many women chasing after this dream. They can even go to the extreme measure of becoming an Anorexia Nervosa victim. I have seen it with my own eyes. I have seen girls that have nothing on their body but bones protrusion. it’s sad to look at.

You may pity them but they may feel something else like being beautiful and this is the dangerous thing about these individuals. They have a psychological disorder that goes along with their obsession for looking thin and feeling beautiful. It’s this psychological problem that will make them obsess with their weight. Anorexia Nervosa is a very common condition in America. Women usually suffer from Anorexia Nervosa.

Women are pressured in this society to look thin in order to be view as beautiful. The media industry is the one that put this extreme pressure on women. It’s true that Hollywood put out this demand for the skinny looks. Most models in the magazine are extremely thin and they have been computer edited to look thin. Women in the entertainment business needs to look thin so that they can attract viewers but women in a normal life don’t have customers and therefore don’t need to take on the approach that entertainers do.

Anorexia Nervosa is when someone is addicted to becoming thin when they’re in fact very thin already. They don’t see the thin person in the mirror but they see the fat person in the mirror. It’s this distortion that caused them to continuously pursuing thinness. Most thin anorexic don’t think that they look thin in the mirror. They can never feel too thin. It’s a dangerous psychological view of themselves and these patients, need psychological help as well as medical intervention to get them better.
