The internet search technology behind web giant Google’s phenomenal rise to its present day pinnacle, also powers the targeted advertisement system of Adsense. Website owners are enlisted in the ad application program and display text, image and video ads through which revenue generating pay-per-click commissions in the process.

The ads appear on relevant websites by targeting appropriate content to the publishing sites, they are largely viewed as less intrusive, and to display ads Google’s Adsense program uses the Javascript code to imbed ads into a registered website.

Some of the displays are of charitable nature (known as the public service announcements), they are shown for a limited period only, usually on websites that are yet to be crawled by the Mediabot.

To realize greater success in this revenue generating program websites should be rich in content and webmasters can fill their sites with advertisements that have topical connection with the site content by instituting a brief script on the website’s pages.

Many techniques are employed by participating webmasters to boost their Adsense revenue by implementing traffic pulling measures that sometimes go beyond online advertising, this is done by tweaking content to suit the highest paying Adsense ads resulting in the increase of click-throughs.

Adwords comes with a complex pricing model resembling the Vickrey second price auction by commanding advertisers to forward a sealed bid, and for every click-through advertisers are required to pay one bid increment above the second highest bid.

Adsense also runs a minimal RSS feeds application which functions by attaching images into a feed, and Google writes the ad content into the follow-up image and as usual the ad content will be appropriate to the content of the feed generated around the image.

Google added another dimension to the traditional Adsense program, called Adsense for search which enables webmasters to place Google search boxes on their sites.

And Google splits any resultant ad revenue it may earn  from such surfers’ queries, but that is if ads on the page are actually clicked. The Adsense program also caters for the mobile internet by permitting publishers to make some money from mobile websites through Google ads.

And Adsense for domains permits ads to be placed on domain names that are yet to be developed enabling domain name owners to raise revenue with dormant domain names but still on a limited participation stage.

Several commercial tracking scripts help publishers to find out whether or not they have been victimised through click fraud, as the Adsense program has not been spared by those seeking a quick buck – sexually explicit material is prohibited from accompanying Adsense ads.
