Merinews – the largest citizen journalism news portal announces the launch of WE (Write & Earn) Program for Citizen Journalists, beginning August 18, 2010.

The WE Program , as the name suggests is aimed to strengthen the bond between the Citizen Journalists (CJs) and to make it mutually rewarding for all the stakeholders in the value chain of news generation at Merinews.

This program is open for all legal residents of India, who register for the WE Program and are found eligible by the screening team. This program shall be opened for Merinews CJs across the world in near future. This program would replace the reward/ revenue share program, which was limited to an honorarium of INR 500 per article selected for Merinews Picks. With the introduction of the WE program, larger number of CJ’s can attempt to generate revenue through their writing and reporting skills.

Announcing the WE Program, Merinews Founder, Vipul Kant Upadhyay said, “introduction of the WE Program is in line with our commitment to establish Merinews as THE citizens media platform. This is yet another step towards establishing the true spirit of the WE MEDIA and break the myth that citizen journalism is not remunerative.

About Merinews.com:

www.merinews.com

Merinews.com is the largest participatory news portal with over 200,000 registered citizen journalists (CJs) across the world. These CJs contribute news and views in the form of text and pictures as they perceive and view.

Emanating from the need to empower democracy by providing a media to the people of the country to communicate with one and all, www.merinews.com is an effort to provide one such platform to interact and express. It is a news platform for collective wisdom of the People, by the People, for the People.

Each submission is open to scrutiny of the people, who bring in a rare diversity of views on a single issue. At the least, they tell you about the people’s mood, and at higher levels, enlarge the original perspective to sum up the general view. This makes Merinews unmistakably a powerful means to foster democratic values and innovative governance, thus marking the much-needed forward step for a more just and democratic dispensation, in which people are the winners.

Winner of India’s BEST e-CONTENT Award for the Year 2006, Official Honoree at Webby Awards 2007, alongside the likes of Bloomberg.com, Aolnews.com and Cnn.com. Amongst top five participatory news portals in the world.
