Confrontation, Ascension, Transition, And Rejuvenation: Goals of Pinoy Pugs Versus The World!

Tungod, Inabanga, Bohol – On Saturday, August 28, 2010, some of the Pinoy boxing prospects, including an ex-champ, will try to defend their turf against foreign counterparts in the fight card dubbed as “Philippines Versus the World,” which will be held at the plush Waterfront Cebu Hotel & Casino. ALA boys Rey “BoomBoom” Bautista and Milan “Piston Punch” Milendo will join former world minimum weight champion Florante “Little Pacquiao” Condes and world title-contender Jimrex “the Jackal” Jaca in leading the Philippines’ charge against invaders from Mexico, Korea, Indonesia, and Japan.

Confrontation will be Bautista’s primary objective, as he takes on tough Alejandro “Zorrito” Barrera of Mexico on the main event of this nine-bout special. It may be recalled that Barrera, a close relative of Mexican ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera, boldly said in an interview with ALA Promotions PR chief Chad Cañares that “Filipino boxers are good… but Mexicans are better.” The Candijay Bohol native also aims to erase the stigma of his two lone defeats that came at the hands of Mexicans.

Undefeated world championship prospect Milan Melindo, on the other hand, will have his eyes set on one thing – ascension. After negotiations for a title clash against erstwhile world champ Carlos Tamara fell through, Melindo hopes to continue his rise in the world rankings and secure better positioning for a chance at a title crack. He hopes to make the hard-punching Jin-Man Jeon of Seoul, South Korea his ticket towards achieving that goal and secure within a year or two a shot at joining the elite group of Pinoy world boxing champions.

Former IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes will try to showcase a smooth transition to the famed ALA Promotional umbrella in an effort to redeem himself from the sorry loss he suffered that also saw him losing his world championship belt and the perks that goes along with it. He will trade mitts against PABA interim minimum weight champion Sofyan Effendi in a battle of the little giants.

Jimrex Jaca, the guy who once gave Juan Manuel Marquez hell although in a losing effort, seeks to rejuvenate his somewhat fading pugilistic career and prove once and for all that he still has what it takes to become a world champion. He will tangle with former WBC Latino super featherweight king Pepino Cuevas, Jr. of Mexico.

Other featured bouts include General Santos City’s Marlon Alta facing Japan’s Naozumi Tsuchiyama. Crowd favorite Jun Entor of Mabinay, Negros Oriental will once again showcase his talent in a highly anticipated faceoff with Jaime Alin, Jr. of Valencia, Bukidnon. Wilbeth Loberanis of Mandaue City takes on Bukidnon’s Romulo Ramayan, as Tagbilaran City’s Pedro Balaba challenges Kotsky Ebalang of Cagayan De Oro, which will serve as appetizers for this mammoth boxing card co-sponsored by ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports.

Fight telecast is scheduled the day after fight night on ABS-CBN channel 3 at 10:15 am. Tickets for this boxing spectacle are pegged at P2000 for first row seats, P1500 for second row seats, P1250 for third row seats, P1000 for fourth row seats, P500 for ringside and a very affordable P250 for balcony.
