Winter Skin: How to Soothe to Prevent Discomfort

Winter skin needs more care than summer skin because of the dry air and low humidity so here are some tips to keep your winter skin looking and feeling great. A consumer should monitor there skin and check with the doctor to help determine the best skin products to minimize dryness and irritation. Also, switching from summer skin care to winter skin care is important. Here are more ideas/tips to help soothe winter skin.

  1. Apply moisturizers after showing to lock in water. Choose ingrediats with vitamin A, E, and shea butter.
  2. Apply liquid lip balm with a SPF of  15 or more even for outdoor sports like skiing and snowboarding. Also, wear sunglasses to protect the eyes for UV rays.
  3. Cover the face, hands, and head when heading out on cold or windy days with a SPF of 30 or more at least 30 minutes before going outside and reapply if you remain outdoors for several hours.
  4. Drink 8 ounces of water up to 8 times daily to maintain soft, smooth-looking skin. Add lemon, lime, or orange slice for taste.
  5. Humidifiers provide moist air in the house. Keep one in the primarily rooms such as the bedroom, den, and living room.
  6. Mild soaps without alcohol should be used on the body, face, and hair.
  7. Minimize hot baths by showering or using lukewarm water. Add hydrating oils in the bath water.
  8. Refrain from eating hot, spicy foods such as hot peppers if skin is sensitive.
  9. Use lotions that attract moisture to the skin such as glycerine and shea butter.
  10. Wear loose fitting clothes in layers to minimize trapping excessive moisture which can dry skin.
