Making dinner doesn’t have to be a major production. This beef stroganoff recipe is easy to do and from start to finish, it can be done in under 1 hour.
The key to cooking fast is to have an organized kitchen with plenty of staples on hand. You can stay away from having to use prepared meals like hamburger helper by having items like canned gravy, flour, chicken broth and other items always on hand. Here is how to get started.
London broil works very well in this recipe. For two people (with leftovers) use about 1 lb. of meat. Double for a family of 4.
Step one- Get out your cutting board and a sharp knife. You will also need either a dutch oven or a deep skillet. You will also need a lid for whichever pot you use.
Step two- Peel a small to medium sized onion. Cut into quarters and then slice on the thin side. Put the onions into your pan with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and cook over a low flame. You want the onions to soften while you slice your beef.
Step three- Slice the beef thinly. The strips should be about 1 1/2″ long. Use a sharp knife to slice it easier. Add the beef to the pan with the onions.
Step four- Stir the beef until almost all the pink has disappeared.
Step five- Add the spices. 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 tablespoon flour. Stir it together and add in 1 large can of beef gravy plus half a can of water. Mix well and turn flame down to a simmer. Lid and allow to cook.
Step six- Stir occasionally and meanwhile cook an 8 ounce bag of medium egg noodles. You can also prepare a vegetable at this time.
Step seven- The beef stroganoff should cook for about 25 minutes. Serve with egg noodles and a vegetable. You can stir 1 tablespoon of butter into the hot,drained noodles to keep them from sticking and add flavor.
Quick, easy and delicious. If you prefer your onions to be larger, you can keep them thick when slicing. These will cook away some which is perfect for picky kids who don’t like onions. Reheats well in the microwave.Enjoy!
