A lot of us know that acne is not a fun thing to deal with. While it can be painful and embarrassing, it can also be treated. There are various acne skin products that you can try, and they can be found in three different categories. Those three categories for acne skin care products are as follows:

– General or preventive.
– Over-the-counter or specialized.
– Prescription.

Now that you know the three categories, we will take a look at each one. This will help you to learn the different choices of the treatment for acne.

First, we will look at the general or preventive acne skin care products. These products are used to prevent acne from happening. General or preventive products can include cleansers and make-up removers. These products should a part of your daily skin care routine, as it will not only help to prevent acne, but it will help to treat any that have already occurred. What do these products do? Well, they prevent the pores from clogging by limiting the production of the oil and sebum. This prevent the oil from getting tripped in the pores and growing into the bacteria that leads to acne. There are also skin peel products that help to remove the dead skin cells and reduce the chance of bacteria development and pore-clogging.

The next products we will look at for the treatment of acne are over-the-counter products. These products can be bought in the store and do not need a prescription. The majority of these products are based salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic are enemies of bacteria, and bacteria causes acne. When using an acne skin care product that contains benzoyl peroxide, you should start with something low (such as 5% benzoyl peroxide) to see how your skin reacts to it. You want to be sure that you are not allergic to it or that it does not irritate your skin. You can also try vanishing creams that eliminates the extra oil on your skin or alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers as well. You may have to try a few different products to see which one (or ones, as some people do need more than one) is best suited for you and your skin. If you try a few and cannot find one that works for you, then you may need to make an appointment with a dermatologist.

Once you do see a dermatologist, this will bring us to the third product category for the treatment for acne. This product category is prescriptions. When you see the dermatologist, he or she can write you a prescription for various acne skin care products. These products can include creams and ointments, oral antibiotics, tropical treatment, or even a surgical procedure. The surgical procedure will remove the contents of the pustules. Since hormonal changes can cause acne, your dermatologist may also prescribe a hormone-based treatment. Whichever he or she decides to prescribe, they can be very effective in most cases, as they are strong and suited for eliminating acne and it’s causes.

Whichever product category you go for, it should be noted that you should never try to squeeze or “pop” any pimples or acne yourself. This can lead to permanent damage of your skin, such as scarring. Once you damage your skin this way, you may not be able to fix it.

As you can see, treatment for acne is possible to do. All you need to do is see which type of acne skin care products work for you and use them. This way, you can prevent any acne from happening and reduce or eliminate the acne you may already have.
