Web Hosting

I have have been running websites for a long time. Before getting my own domain and getting hosted, I had free websites but they did not compare to having a full fledged website without all the restrictions that free ones have.

What is Webhosting?

Web Hosting is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation.

Hosting of services vary from one host to another. Some offer just a very basic of packages and some offer a lot more. I’ve used different hosts and there have been pros and cons of most of them. My current one has been the best of them all. Please we weary if they offer their plans are of an outrageous amount. Most web hosts oversell. Take a look at hostgator. Yes I use them and regardless of their pitfalls, they still are one of the best webhosts out there. If you take a look at their shared hosting plans and their tos, you will see that no matter what you do there is no way you can use up the whole amount of disk space. You’d run out of bandwidth and resources before that.

The reliability of the service is a key factor when looking into a hosting service. Most Web hosting Companies state their up time is 99.9%. Usually that is not correct. Now that I am offering webhosting, I don’t want to claim that high of a percentage even though it very much is that high. I want to have some room to work with. I want to offer the truth; not lies.

Types of Webhosting

Free Webhosting

Free Webhosting is usually the first step people go to when needing web hosting. Its a great starter website but there are usually drawbacks on free webhosting. Back in 98 when I first learned about creating webpages, I had a geocities account. Its good for basic webpages and that is about it. It does not have even have sql databases.

Features and Limitations

Only a few free web hosts offer basic package for free. Enhanced packages with more features are usually available for a cost. This allows users to try the service for an initial trial and then upgrade when needed.

Shared Webhosting

At one point or another people use shared webhosting. Its one of the easiest and reasonable options. Its usually all you need to run a small business or personal website.

A shared web hosting service or virtual hosting service or derive host refers to a web hosting service where many websites reside on one web server connected to the Internet. Each site “sits” on its own partition, or section/place on the server to keep it separate from other sites. This is generally the most economical option for hosting as many people share the overall cost of server maintenance.

Reseller Web Hosting

Why would someone want to go Reseller? That is a good question and I have an answer. There is two reason why someone would go reseller. They either want to sell webspace and make themselves their own webhost or they have more than one website and want to divide it up.

Dedicated Hosting Services

So what exactly is it? It basically is a server that is a dedicated server which normally a client would lease from. They do not share it with anyone. They are usually housed in a data center. An example of a data center would be the planet which is where hostgator currently houses their servers at.
