Hot fudge sauce is a staple around the Holidays. It can be used to top ice cream, cakes or to make hot drinks.
Making your own hot fudge is yet another way to save money! In addition to saving money, it will not contain as many preservatives and will be a “healthier” option for your family!
This recipe is great to make with your children as well. Just be sure you monitor them as they cook on the stove. Family time is great when it is spent together in the kitchen.
Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce
** 1 can evaporated milk
** 2 cups sugar
** 1/4 cup cocoa powder
** 1/2 cup butter
** 1 tsp vanilla
** 1 shake of salt
Bring all ingredients to a boil. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring often.
What you can do with your homemade hot fudge:
Serve over ice cream or top individual slices of cake with the sauce.
Add to hot milk for a rich cup of hot cocoa.
Add to cold milk for chocolate milk.
Make your hot drinks special:
Christmas is a great time for serving hot drinks such as coffee, tea and cocoa. Next time you get together and serve these sweet beverages, try dressing them up just a little bit:
Top hot cocoa with whipped cream, marshmallows, ice cream or frozen yogurt.
Sprinkle ground cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice or apple pie spice over coffee, hot tea or cocoa.
Use candy canes for stirrers for hot cocoa.
Add honey to hot tea.
When serving hot drinks, use Christmas mugs to help guests get into the Holiday spirit.
Add vanilla extract to warm milk or coffee.
Use eggnog to flavor coffee.
Keep drinks hot with a crock-pot set on low.
Keep a variety of flavored creamers on hand for guests to create their own flavored drinks.
