Facial skin care’ is a matter of discipline. A routine for facial skin care is needed and you must follow your routine religiously. An effective facial skin care routine will consist of the following 4 steps:
Cleansing is the first step in the facial skin care routine. Cleansing removes dirt, grease and extra oil from your skin, helping to prevent skin damage. Spot your face and neck with a cleansing lotion or cream, then gently massage it into your skin. Use a soft face tissue or cotton to wipe your face gently (do not rub). The cleansing process should be done twice a day i.e. morning as part of complete facial skin care routine and evening on a standalone basis. Water soluble cleansers are best for your facial skin care routine.
Toning is the second step in the facial skin care routine. However, toning is optional because proper cleansing will compensate for toning. Since toning helps remove all traces of dirt, grease and excess cleanser you can use it occasionally, for example, when you have been exposed to a particularly harsh environment or pollution.
Exfoliation is the third step in the facial skin care routine. It however, is necessary only once or twice a week depending on the skin type and the environmental conditions. Skin has a natural tendency to replenish the skin cells every 3 or 4 weeks. Exfoliation helps to remove the dead skin cells from the pores, helping the skin in the natural process. Excessive or harsh exfoliation will cause damage to your skin, so limit it to once or twice per week.
Moisturizing is the fourth step in the facial skin care routine. It is the most important part routine. Moisturizers prevent the skin from drying out. When the skin dries out it cracks which leads to dead skin cells. Moisturizers work the best when applied to warm damp skin. The best time to do this step may be right after a shower or bath.
Other things you should be doing for facial skin care are:
* Use a proper make-up remover instead of just washing it away
* Consider your skin type and the environment, when choosing facial skin care products.
* Before you use a new facial skin care product, test it by applying it on a small patch of skin, for
example the ear lobes.
* Use sunscreen lotions for protection from the sun.
