The Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant is a local chain in Delaware; there are 8 locations in Delaware and the surrounding area of Pennsylvania. The restaurant/brewery chain received its name from a historical Delaware landmark from the revolutionary war. The iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant was born in 1996 with the opening of the flagship location in Newark DE. Iron Hill was started by two award winning home brewers and a restaurateur, and it shows in the wide selection of distinctive handcrafted beers, delicious American cuisine and the great ambiance of the restaurants.

My first experience with the Iron Hill Brewery was a couples date night with 4 other couples; we went to the Wilmington DE location and it was fabulous. The Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant sits on the beautiful riverfront in Wilmington Delaware. The Iron Hill is a microbrewery but the beer is not the only reason to visit; the food is delicious and the ambiance is great. The prices are not the cheapest but  are inline with other restaurants of the same quality. Starter salads start at $5.75 with large meal size salads costing from $12 to $15, desserts are any where from $3.95 to $8.95.

Beer of course is the thing that The Iron Hill is known for. The Iron Hill Brewery has a very nice selection of beers which of course, are brewed on site. If beer is your thing try the sampler, a set of 8, 4oz beers for $16 ranging from a light Mill lager to a Raspberry Wheat, that really taste of raspberry. The beer drinkers in my party truly loved the Maibock which they described as having a perfect balance of sweet and bitter; keep in mind that the Maiboc is a seasonal beer that becomes available the 1st of May.

The Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant is the place to go for a memorable experience with delicious food, good drink and first-rate desserts. The old fashioned oatmeal cake tasted like some one turned a huge warm home made oatmeal cookie into a delicious and moist cake. The Double Chocolate Hill was my favorite, who can resist warm chocolate cake with a peanut butter center and chocolate ganache. I am getting ahead of myself discussing the desserts before the entrées but never fear the Iron Hill will not let you down. The Black Pepper Crusted Ahi Tuna is delicious even the lentils were wonderfully seasoned. The steaks are brilliantly flavored and an experience in themselves. I myself had the shared-plate sampler that includes a tex-mex spring roll, cheese steak egg roll and moo shu egg roll with different dipping sauces. The sampler was pretty good and left me with plenty to take home; it is listed as a shared plate. While beer might be the Iron Hills thing don’t worry there are other choices for those who are not big beer drinkers, members of my party enjoyed the margaritas and the modest selection of wines.

For a romantic meal for two or a relaxing evening with friends in Delawareor the Philadelphia Pennsylvania area, I would suggest The Iron Hill Brewery for its ambiance and food. Remember, reservations are accepted for lunch and dinner. Smoking is not allowed except in designated outdoor areas. Cigar and pipe smoking is prohibited
