Sawyer Park sports bar is located in the Houston Heights area, which became increasingly popular starting around the end of 2008, and it is one of the earliest planned communities in the entire state of Texas. The area is conveniently located close to both the downtown area and the galleria shopping center.
Sawyer Park became more popular during the soccer World Cup, but it features also MLS soccer game, baseball and basketball games too of course. The bar is located at 2412 Washington Avenue and the hours of operations are from Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. However it will open earlier for games, like football or even the early cup games it was open early.
The bar has a pretty open space and it is not completely dark, it is scrappy sports bar meets higher standard bar, which makes it an unusual mix, some love it and some do not. If you like an atmosphere where there is excitement during a match but at the same time it does not get rowdy then this is a great place to watch sports games and have bar food and drinks.
The prices are average especially for the location; however I would order one of their gourmet burgers like the South American chimichuri burger with grilled onions for $8.50 or thesmoked Gouda burger with sautéed onions for $9.00 I tend to add blue cheese to this one for 50 cents more, while eating on the patio and looking at downtown Houston.
Of course you can order one of their appetizers for the table and nib on chips and guacamole for $4.50,or their calamari which are really crispy for $8.50, or even the Buffalo wings which you can order 24 for $16 and can decide from cayenne, sweet and spicy to honey chipotle.
