A Review of Cupcake Café in Sugarland, Texas

Cupcakes are small individual size cakes and the term came into use back in 1828 by an author and cook Eliza Leslie in her cookbook, and back then they were baked in pottery pots or ramekins.

Cupcakes seem to be the trend right now; even though it is said it will die down eventually, but in the mean time why not make a business out of it? Just like Cupcake Café in Sugarland did.

The café can be missed in the strip mall between other bigger stores, but it is worth a try.  Once inside you are immediately overwhelmed by the cupcake centric décor with a huge upside cake from the ceiling which functions as a light and you immediately feel like you should be a kid again, it is not for me but more for a 6 or 7 year old girl. However I like sitting on the couch or in one of their corner tables and sip a cup of cappuccino and a cupcake.

Let’s get to the good stuff which is the food or better the main attraction which are the mini cakes; a small cake is $2.50 and a larger one is $3.75; and there are plenty of flavors to choose from such as the coconut snow ball (very moist), or the lychee coconut for coconut lovers or the red velvet (which can be moist or dry depending on the day), the pina colada, red velvet or even the old fashion recipe to name a few. And if you really like them you can order them in an actual cake form to bring home or to a party or a dinner.

However they also offer some sandwiches, wraps and salads if you want to have a lunch during your break from work. Their wraps are actually more than decent especially the California wrap which has avocados, carrots, cucumbers and mozzarella and wrapped in a tortilla, or the croissant club flaky croissant is layered with turkey, ham, crispy bacon, Swiss and cheddar cheese and topped off with Dijon mustard and grilled for $8.50, or even the Tuscan grilled cheese which is a grilled cheese focaccia bread sandwich with mozzarella, Swiss cheese, tomatoes and pesto spread for $7.50.

Cupcake Café is located at16525 Lexington Blvd on the other side of First Colony Mall and the hours of operations are from Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and it is closed on Sunday.
